About The Bank

The Kangra Co-operative Bank Ltd. started in a very humble way as a small Thrift/Credit Society in March, 1960 by a few friends of Distt. Kangra of Himachal Pradesh to help out the people of Himachal Pradesh residing in Delhi to uplift their economic conditions and tide over the financial hardships. Dedication, sincerity and honesty of these members/associates brought rich fruits and this Thrift/Credit Society grew up into a big society within twelve years and was converted into a primary urban Cooperative Bank in 1972 by RBI. Over the years, it expanded with several branches and licensed by RBI for banking business.

How to Become a Member

1. Eligibility

• Any adult residing in the area of operation (NCTD) or gainfully engaged in an occupation there, not a member of another primary co-operative credit society/bank.
• Other eligible persons include registered cooperative societies, groups, associations, trusts, government, firms, joint-stock companies, or other corporate bodies as notified by the Government.

2. Documents Required

Category I – Govt./Semi-Govt./PSU Employees:

• Two latest salary certificates
• Copy of Office I-card
• Copy of PAN card, Aadhaar card, or Voter ID
• Proof of residence (electricity/water/landline/gas bill)

Category II – Private Company Employees:

• Two latest salary certificates
• Copy of PAN card, Aadhaar card, or Voter ID
• Proof of residence
• House ownership proof (water bill/house tax/Conveyance Deed/Sale Deed/Agreement)

Category III – Business Persons:

• Full address of business premises
• Copy of Aadhaar/Voter ID and PAN card
• Copies of latest three years ITRs
• Proof of residence and house ownership proof

3. Other Conditions

• Introduction from a regular paymaster member with minimum 1-year membership.
• Applicant enrolled in the nearest branch to residence or business.
• Membership enrolment done at Head Office; forms issued at branches/HO.
• BM/DM verifies documents and introducer membership validity.
• Branch Head calls applicants for completing formalities and opening Saving/Current account.
• Deposit requirements: Saving Rs.1,000, Current Rs.5,000 (if category 1b)
• Deposit at Head Office: Share Money Rs.5,000–20,000, Building Fund Rs.1,000, Admin Fee Rs.1,000
• Sign Membership Register, receive photo ID and membership number.
• Branch opens member’s account in CBS; file sent back to HO for record.
• Enrolment generally open throughout the year, check with nearest branch for any closure.

History & Growth

The Kangra Central Co-operative Bank (KCCB) came into existence on 17th March 1920 (License No. RPCD.09/2009-10). Over the years, the bank has expanded its reach and played a significant role in strengthening the co-operative banking sector in Himachal Pradesh.

Major Milestones

• 1947: Suffered heavy losses of ₹10.64 Lacs due to Partition.
• 1956: Indora Banking Union merged – 2nd Branch opened at Nurpur (Jan’1956).
• 1957: Palampur Banking Union merged – 3rd Branch opened at Palampur (Jan’1957).
• 1958: Nanaon Banking Union merged – 4th Branch opened at Hamirpur (Oct’1958).
• 1962: Govt. provided relief with ₹4.09 Lacs grant, Interest Free Relief Loan of ₹3.98 Lacs, and Govt. of India Loan of ₹4.97 Lacs @ 3.87%.
• 1971-72: Entered Pong Dam Deposit Mobilisation Scheme aggressively.
• 1973-74: Deposits grew from ₹256 Lacs to ₹1054 Lacs within 2 years.
